How Your UT Paycheck Works

Utah paychecks start with federal income tax withholding under IRS Publication 15-T, using Form W-4, pay frequency, taxable wages, and filing status. FICA applies: Social Security is 6.2% on wages up to the 2026 wage base of $184,500, Medicare is 1.45% on all covered wages, and employers must withhold the 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax once wages exceed $200,000 in the calendar year. Utah uses a flat individual income tax rate. The Utah State Tax Commission lists the current rate as 4.5% effective January 1, 2025 onward; the prior 4.55% rate applied only through 2024. Utah withholding is calculated using the employee's federal W-4 and Utah withholding schedules. Utah does not have a separate statewide employee SDI or paid family leave payroll deduction. Estimates assume standard 2026 withholding, single filing status, and no pre-tax deductions; actual paycheck may differ.
